Sioux Falls Thrive’s Deb Koski to Present at April Gathering

Join us on Tuesday, April 4 at 6:30 pm when Deb Koski, Vice Chair of Sioux Falls Thrive, will educate us about their new mission: Every Child, Every Step, from Cradle to Career.

All a kid needs to succeed is a little help, a little hope, and someone who believes in them. Sioux Falls aims to deliver that and a lot more. Business, government, nonprofit and faith sectors are coming together under Sioux Falls Thrive, a cradle to career initiative. With growing economic disparity and social diversity, Thrive is taking a fresh approach to managing the complexity of the educational ecosystem. It’s called collective impact, and its designed to ensure that all children in our community have the resources they need to achieve their highest academic and career potential.

 

Old Courthouse Museum Tour

Bill Hoskins, Director of the Siouxland Heritage Museums, will give a “behind the scenes” tour of the Old Courthouse Museum, (200 West 6th Street) at 6:00 pm on Tuesday, February 7, 2017. Please come to the 6th Street Entrance. Parking is in the back/north side of the building or on the street.

Christmas Program and Social

Program:  Dr. Margaret Preston, Professor of History, Augustana University, will join us with:  “A Good Woman Gone“, a conversation about Helen McKennan and her gifts to Sioux Falls.

In celebration of the season, we will follow the presentation with a Christmas socialSpouses or significant other are encouraged to join us for the evening. Christmas treats will be served.

If you would like to bring a pair of children’s mittens for the needy children in Sioux Falls, we will collect them and deliver them to a designated service for distribution in time for Christmas.

Honoring the women of our great state who have been our role models and everyday heroes, this original production is sure to entertain, educate, and enlighten family audiences about just how strong, proud, and wise South Dakota’s women have been and always will be.

History Club Members to Tour State Theater

History Club members will have the opportunity to tour the State Theater on Tuesday, February 9. Members who would like to see the progress that has been made on restoring the State Theater can meet in the lobby of the theater at 5:45 pm. Stacy Newcomb-Weiland will host the group for the tour.

Dickens Holiday Event

The 9th Annual Dickens Holiday Event will be held on Saturday, December 5, 2015 at 10:30 am at The History Club. Tickets are $50. This delightful morning fundraiser supports the clubhouse maintenance and improvements. The event includes a delightful brunch, entertainment, and the opportunity to bid on silent auction items or buy raffle tickets for wonderful themed baskets.
