The History Club has been active in philanthropic activities in Sioux Falls since 1879. Club members have always been dedicated to the ideals of promoting education and literacy in our community. The History Club was instrumental in the formation of the first public library in Sioux Falls.
Until the closure of the elementary school, The History Club had a volunteer relationship with a magnet English Language Learner school here in Sioux Falls, Longfellow Elementary, our clubhouse’s neighborhood school. Members of the club supported Longfellow’s Reading Recovery Program as well as served in other volunteer capacities there. Spending time with the children in this wonderful school and observing the caring faculty and staff was a rewarding experience for all who donated time.
In May 2012 during the school awards ceremony, The History Club’s Longfellow Volunteers were very honored to receive the school’s Volunteer of the Year Award from Mr. Sheets, the Principal.
